Where do I begin?

The best place to start is always at the beginning:

1 - Apply for admission

2 - Apply for financial aid

3 - Consult with an advisor

4 - Register for courses

How do I apply?

Step 1

Complete the online application The application process to Southwest may be completed online, will take approximately 15 to 20 minutes and is free.  Your acceptance is not completed until the Admissions Office receives all of the information needed for enrollment in a Program of Study.  You may also download a printable version and mail to SwVCC, Admissions Office, 369 College Road, Richlands, VA  24641-1101.

A new full-time student must submit Asset Test Scores (or SAT/COMPASS) and a High School Transcript.   Please visit the Admissions Office online or in person for comprehensive admissions information.

Step 2

Once the application for admission has been completed, check to see if you are eligible for financial aidIf so, fill out the necessary forms to apply.

Step 3

Before enrolling in your first college level English and/or math course, you must take  an assessment test prior to registration.  After completion of the test, review the results with an advisor.  Based on the results, the advisor can help plan a course schedule.  This prevents incomplete programs of study resulting in ineligibility for graduation and prevents untransferable classes.  Please consult the list of advisors by curriculum to locate the appropriate advisor for your coursework.

Step 4

Select the classes in which you wish to enroll from the Course Schedule.  Register anytime online using the Student Information System.
