Why is accreditation important?

Accreditation is a matter of creditability.   It enhances the value of the student's degree. Any school can claim to have a great program however, to be accredited  proves it.  It shows the school has met certain criteria to make a student's coursework widely accepted in the workforce and at other colleges and universities.

Accreditation

Southwest Virginia Community College, a part of the Virginia Community College System, is approved by the State Board for Community Colleges and by the Virginia Community College System. The associate degree curricula of the College have also been approved by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.

The College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097; Telephone number 404. 679.4501) to award the associate degree.
